Instructor at NYBG - Sustainable Garden Design
During the winter months, Ty teaches Sustainable Garden Design, the capstone course in the Horticulture Track 4 Sustainable Garden Design Certificate Program, in which students synthesize the knowledge they have learned in 150+ hours of coursework at NYBG. In this studio-oriented course, students learn the principles of sustainable garden design, including how to analyze a site, how to create a schematic, conceptual and planting plans, and how to create a plant palette by choosing plants that share similar growing conditions based on a color scheme, for multi-season interest, habitat preservation, and pollinator attraction. Students demonstrate mastery of these subjects through design projects, discussions, and portfolio presentations.
