Planting of the Fernery at Bristow Bird Sanctuary

November 6, 2021

More than 40 New Canaan High School SLOBs and parents planted a new “Fernery Garden” in Bristow Park on Nov. 6. Created by garden designer Ty Tan with site preparation by P. Lanni Construction, four shifts of SLOBs planted more than 220 ferns of various varieties and 180 supporting sedges, grasses and bushes during an 8-hour period. The New Canaan Beautification League’s ‘Traveling Trowels’ team provided guidance and support. Funded by the Friends of Bristow Park, this fernery harks back to the 1931 fern garden recorded in the historical archives of Bristow Park. Located near the recently improved pond and Old Stamford Road entrance, the fernery represents another step in the 2024 Bristow Park Centennial Master Plan.
