Ty holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Cornell University, Landscape Design Certificate from the New York Botanical Garden, and is an accredited Organic Land Care Professional from the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Connecticut.

She is a Board Member of the New York Botanical Garden Landscape Design Student Alumni Association, a group that offers educational programs to landscape designers and promotes professionalism. She teaches sustainable garden design at the New York Botanical Gardens. She is a Board Member and volunteer of the New Canaan Beautification League, a civic beautification organization of volunteers working to keep New Canaan beautiful. She teaches pruning workshops to other landscape  professionals and volunteer Master Gardeners. When she’s not working, she’s in her garden with her German Shepherd dog.
